In honor of you...
This year, in honor of our generous and community-minded customers, we are donating $25,000 to Mid-Continent’s Reading Rocket program, which serves the same communities as our Retail Banking branches.
Reading Rocket Program Manager Lisa Campbell and VP Grandview Branch Manager Jamie Alig announcing the partnership
“We are excited to partner with the Mid-Continent Public Library in support of the Reading Rocket and the important work they do to bring Forever Books to children who don’t always have easy access to books and libraries,” said Grandview Branch Manager Jaime Alig. “Books are doors that open up a world of possibilities to readers-they transport us into other lives, places, and fresh ways of thinking about the world and each other. We love being able to support a program that brings that gift of imagination to the children in our community.”
Mid-Continent Public Library Reading Rocket Program
Mid-Continent Library Reading Rocket, sometimes referred to as Grow A Reader to Go, is a mobile early literacy unit that provides outreach to families living in transportation deserts where public transportation is not easily accessible. Some examples of services Reading Rocket Provides are:
- Early Literacy Storytimes for preschools, daycares, afterschool care programs, or other facilities with formalized classes or groups of children, provided both in-person and virtually.
- Play & Learns at open ‘come-and-go’ functions such as family-oriented community events, school literacy nights, and resource fairs.
- Storytime Kits consisting of instruments, early learning manipulatives, book-bundles, and detailed instructions are distributed to daycares, preschools, foster care facilities, and other partners. In combination with the modeling provided during regular outreach storytimes, these kits prepare facilities and caregivers to produce their own high quality storytime experiences.
- Forever Books provide free books for kids and teens offered at a variety of events, purchased with help from various partners and the Forever Book Fund.
